    Description

This beautiful textile artpiece was bought in Mali in 1976.  It is authentic.
I bought it at the market in Bamako when I lived there.
It was brand new then and for all those years it was stored in a cedar trunk protected from the elements.  It has no trace of dirt, or mold, no hole, no defect in the weaving.  It is truly a beautiful blanket.
It was never used, never unfolded.
This type of "blanket" is typically Djerma.  The Djerma or Zarma live at the borders of Mali and Niger. This type of blankets is normally offered as gifts at weddings.  It is more of a wall hanging for it is made with several strips done on a small loom, see picture.  weavers are only men in many West African societies.
This 100% cotton blanket is made of 7 strips loosely sown together at regular interval.
Each band is 7.5",the balnket is 110" long, so it hangs as 110"x52.5".
You may sow the bands together in order to create a bed or sofa cover.
This blanket should not be washed as the colors are not locked and will run.
