    Description

1992-8 August AMAZONIA World Resource at Risk Amazon National Geographic Map

The vast Amazon basin houses a gigantic ecological machine of global importance...being cannibalized for it's parts.” The map-side of this important study contains a classic National Geographic cartographic map of South America. The reverse-side shows the Amazon basin which covers parts of seven countries with illustrations and narrative about the relationship between the movement of polar air and the movement of the earth's rotation creating trade winds, which in themselves brings moisture to distant desert regions. The Amazon basin is a giant absorber of carbon dioxide, but the cutting and burning of trees in the Amazon (and elsewhere) is releasing carbon dioxide which is leading to the warming of the earth, adversely affecting the health of the entire planet. A critical study for all students of the environment.
    Map is approximately 20" x 28".
The National Geographic is known for it's fine maps & detailed information.
